Why is my wheel balancer chasing weights or giving inconsistent readings?
When a computerized wheel balancer asks for weights in different spots on back-to-back spins ("chasing weights"), the most common causes are drifted internal piezo sensor calibration, a dirty or failing optical shaft encoder, a loose drive belt, or worn mounting cones and quick-nuts that fail to center the wheel repeatably. What causes a rim-clamp tire changer to lose clamping pressure or leak air under the pedals?
Air hissing beneath the foot pedals or weak rim clamping is typically caused by worn spool-valve O-rings in the pedal bank, degraded piston seals inside the tabletop clamping cylinders, or a leaking rotary air union beneath the turntable. Moisture and rust in shop air lines accelerate this wear. We rebuild pedal valves, cylinders, and rotary unions across all major tire changer brands.
